For immediate release:
Producers, Come to Toronto March 2nd
GUELPH, ON—Ontario’s seven grains and oilseeds organizations are expecting all their members to make their voices heard by attending the rally at Queen’s Park in Toronto that is being sponsored by commodity organizations, and general farm organizations on Wednesday, March 2.
The rally – being called “The One Voice March” is the first of its kind, where so many of Ontario’s agriculture sectors and other general farm organizations are working with the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) to call attention to the crises currently being faced by farmers across the province.
“A rally of this magnitude is an unprecedented appeal to our government for help, for an unprecedented need not just for grains and oilseeds sector, but in so many sectors across the board,” says Peter Tuinema, President of the Ontario Wheat Producers’ Marketing Board and Chair of Ontario Grains & Oilseeds Safety Net Committee
The Grains and Oilseeds organizations are working collaboratively to develop the messages they need government to hear, and they’re working with OFA and the other organizations to carry those messages forward on their behalf. Along with the grains and oilseeds demands OFA will take to the legislature – namely that:
- A “Grain Market Disaster Payment,” producers need a $300 million infusion
- An adequately funded, effective replacement for MRI; and
- Refinements to CAIS
OFA will also bring forward demands from other sectors.
“The grains & oilseeds sector strongly supports our counterparts in other sectors. This call for one voice has been strongly communicated by our grassroots and we believe this movement will help agriculture get the attention it deserves,” says Tuinema.
OFA is organizing the logistics for this event. Growers interested in participating in the rally should contact their local federation of agriculture for information on transportation to the rally from areas across Ontario.
See you March 2nd at Queens Park.
